I was once stuck at Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN)

Stuck at Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul, South Korea? Don’t fret. You are in the world’s best airport for some consecutive years, anyway.

Since 2005, it has been rated the best airport worldwide in each year. It is also rated as the world’s cleanest airport and the world’s best international transit airport by Skytrax.

I love looking at flight boards. It is intimidating, exciting, spine tingling, surreal, and awe-inspiring all at the same time!

Want to catch a free K-POP concert during your stopover? See our blog post on this one.

The airport has a golf course, spa, private sleeping rooms, ice skating rink, a casino, indoor gardens and a Museum of Korean Culture. Airport authorities claim that average departure and arrival takes only 19 minutes (60 minutes world-wide industry average) and 12 minutes (45 minutes) respectively, significantly lower than the rest of the world, making it one of the fastest airports in the world for immigration and customs processing. Its duty-free shopping mall has been rated the world’s best for three years in a row in 2013 by Business Traveller. Incheon International Airport also claims that it has only a 0.0001% baggage mishandling rate.

So what do you do? I don’t know about you. ;) I suggest that you just roam around the airport and just anticipate to discover cool stuff and neat things, especially if you have half a day to wait, like I did. I’ve been to ICN two times now and I must say I haven’t fully paid a visit to this rather huge airport. Aside from its free Seoul City transit tours, the free SUPER FAST Wi-Fi, and all of the above mentioned exciting things to do, you can also take advantage of its free Korean cultural experience without stepping a foot out of the airport.

If you love ‘culture-ing’ and are a big fan of traditional items and handicrafts, as well as Jewel-in-the-Palace-ish cultural experience, suggest you head on to the Korea Traditional Cultural Experience Center right in the middle of the departure area, where all terminal wings converge. Here you can witness traditional possessions by actors dressed in traditional costumes, as well as decorate your own traditional handicrafts that you can take home free of charge.

Performers march slowly along the departure hallway accompanied by traditional music, while a host provides information, both in Korean and English, about whatever is being done by the performers during the ceremony (so listen up! ).

You can create and paint traditional artifacts free of charge (materials included) in the Korea Traditional Cultural Experience Center. Just ask the lady dressed in the traditional Hanbok.

Passengers who are also stuck at the airport try out painting traditional masks that they can take home for free.

By the way, for my readers who are smokers, know that 'green' smoking areas are abundant in the airport. Yey! Might be irrelevant to some, but sorry I just have to say it! :)
